Muztagh Ata (7545m) Expedition 2006

MUZTAGH ATA (7545M) - PAKISTAN/CHINA
Located in the highest ranges in the world situated in Northern Pakistan. Himalaya -Karakorum -Hindu Kush and Pamir. To climb Muztagh Ata in Pamir Range, visiting Pakistan-China is unique combination for all adventure lovers. Muztagh Ata provides excellent opportunity of skiing from the summit to base camp. The tour starts from Islamabad to Sost on the Karakoram Highway Providing superb view of the western Himalayan and Karakorum giants, like Nanga Parbat (8126m) (sleeping beauty), Ultar Peak (7388m) Diran Peak (7266m), Spantik (7027m) and many more above 7000 meters. Crossing of Khunjerab Pass at 4733m takes you to the highest border crossing on a paved road in the world.

CLIMBING MUZTAGH ATA
Muztagh Ata is not technically difficult but challenging to your strength and ability. The approach walk from Karakul Lake to upward slopes is very rewarding with splendid view of a vast and quiet mountain panorama, glaciers, and icebergs. Also visit historical city of Kashgar (Sunday bazaar) before your return journey to Pakistan.


Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1 Islamabad
Arrive at Islamabad and transfer to hotel Afternoon sightseeing of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi is a lively, bustling city with the crowded streets and colorful bazaars, thorough it lacks the grand monuments; nonetheless, the bazaar should appeal to anyone with the desire to see the real Pakistan. Islamabad is a new capital. 36 years old well-planed city of Pakistan is lush green at the footsteps of potowar hills. Visit one of the biggest Shah Faisal Mosque in the world; also an interesting round trip combines a tour of Shakarparian Park with a visit to Lok versa, the institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage.

Day 2 Islamabad -Chilas
Drive to Chilas on the Karakorum highway. Transfer to hotel Karakorum highway is the 8th wonder of the world. The Karakorum Highway was constructed jointly by the Chinese and Pakistanis. Beginning in 1960s and constructed in 1976. the road is a link between Pakistan and China. It is an engineering wonder.

Day 3 Chilas -Sost
Drive to Sost through Hunza Valley, on your journey to Sost enjoys the magnificent views of snow caped mountains. Meals & overnight at hotel

Day 4 Sost -Tashkorgan
After custom formalities we drive over the Khunjerab Pass to China on the Karakorum highway. This is fantastic trip through a long, shallow high pass, which at 4,733m, is the highest international border crossing in the world. On the other side of the pass we will reach the Chinese town of Tashkurgan. Meals & overnight in Yurt

Day 5 Tashkorgan -Karakul Lake
Drive to Karakul Lake. Meals & overnight in camp

Day 6 Karakul Lake -Muztagh Ata BC
This morning we drive to Karakul Lake, which is located between China's two Pamir Mountain giants, Muztagh Ata 7545m AND Kongur 7719m, and trek to Muztagh Ata base camp. Meals & overnight in tents

Day 7 to 22 : 16 Days for climbing Muztagh Ata. Meals & overnight in camp

Day 23 Muztagh BC -Karakul Lake - Kashgar
Trek down to Karakul Lake (4 hours) and transfer by mini bus to Kashgar (5 hours) Meals & overnight at Kashgar hotel

Day 24 Kashgar (visit Sunday Market)
Full day visit Sunday Market. Meals & overnight at Kashgar hotel The famous and historical Sunday Bazaar brings over a 100,000 people of different nationalities and ethnic groups. They come on foot horsebacks bikes, modern motorcycles, and donkey carts

Day 25 Kashgar -Tashkorgan
Drive to Tashkorgan, before reaching Tashkorgan we have a magnificent view of Muztagh Ata. Meals & overnight at hotel

Day 26 Tashkorgan - Sost -Karimabad
Drive to Sost via Khunjerab Pass. After custom formalities continue drive to Karimabad (the capital of Hunza). Meals & overnight at hotel. Hunza 55,000 inhabitants have been ruled by the Mir's, family since the 11th century. The people are cheerful, friendly, fair-skinned and blue or green eyes. Almost all speak Brushaski and in upper Hunza they speak Wakhi. The miracle of the Hunzakuts longevity, supposedly resulting from their mostly vegetarian diet of cereals and fruits. From Hunza Valley, panoramic views of Rakaposhi (7788m) Diran Peak (7266m) Spantik Peak (7027m) Ultar 11 (7388) Lady Finger (6000m). Meals & overnight at Mountain View.

Day 27 Excursion to Duiker Valley
Full day hike to Duiker Valley. (Roof of the world). From Duiker top you are very close to Lady Finger (6000m) peak Unclimbed Ultar Sar 1 (7300m) and very nice view of Rakaposhi (7788m) Diran Peak (7200m) Gooden Peak (7027m) and Dastagil Sar. Afternoon walk to Altit village through water channel and evening musical program. Meals & overnight at hotel

Day 28 Karimabad -Besham
Driver to Besham, (9-10 hrs), stop in Chilas for Lunch and continue drive to Besham on Karakorum highway. Meals & overnight at hotel

Day 29 Besham -Islamabad
Drive to Islamabad (7-8 hrs) Meals & overnight at hotel

Day 30 Fly Back
Transfer to Islamabad for International flight

Difficulty Technically not difficult but physically and psychologically demanding.
